Gallery KH
311 West Superior Street
Chicago, IL 60654

Free Event With Free Drinks, Art Show and a Reason to Get Out Enjoy Life

Gallery KH is pleased to present BADASS a new collection of mixed media portraits by the artist Francine Turk. BADASS opens November 11, 2011 through January 4, 2012.  An opening night cocktail reception with the artist is scheduled for Friday, November 11, 5-8PM.
“With a title like BADASS, you know you are in for something unexpected and we are thrilled to host this new and edgy collection of portraits by Francine Turk.  The pieces featured in BADASS are exclusive to Gallery KH and we have given Francine the freedom to go full throttle into her vision and we are, along with her longtime fans, excited to see this gifted artist bring her vision to life here at Gallery KH,” states Lissa M. Kivisto, Director of Gallery KH.
“Portraits are a subject matter that I have been wanting to pursue for years. This body of work is a departure from my traditional figurative work in an attempt to explore the dynamic between celebrity and society. I decided to portray BADASS creative geniuses to capture the quiet confidence and essence of each individual that captures the curiosity of myself and society as a whole. I’m intrigued by their fearlessness of self truth,” states the artist.
Francine Turk is a Chicago native who lives and works in the metropolis always on the verge. Turk studied at Columbia College, where her natural talents were met by Hollis Sigler. Sigler was a painting pioneer whose personal and emotional story intersected with her paintings. Turk was profoundly impacted by Sigler’s work ethic, painting acumen and mental determination. While on her path to create works that would resonate with others, Turk was discovered at a Chicago fine art and antiques fair in the summer of 2005 by a motion picture art director, resulting in her figurative work gracing the walls of the movie set for Universal films 2006 blockbuster “The Break Up,” starring Jennifer Aniston and Vince Vaughn.  This film thrust her career into a new sphere of success. From that period on, Francine has been celebrated with solo exhibitions, press coverage in major art and design magazines, various on-line art reviews, and national representation. Turk’s collector base includes, interior designers, Hollywood set designers, actors, and numerous supporters of the arts.
About Gallery KH
Located in the heart of Chicago’s River North Arts District, Gallery KH presents an outstanding collection of significant contemporary artists working in a variety of styles and media. For further information on any of our artists, please visit or call 1-312-642-0202.

Scott and view some of his masterpieces up-close at the closing reception to be held on Monday, November 21, 2011.  Until then, check out this great review along with some amazing photographs courtesy of Joshua Smith.

Rico “The Barber” Miller and Visual Artist and Designer P. Scott

Fashion Meets Religion… P.Scott’s “A Vision of a Fashion God”
written by: Quiana Hughes of CWAE PR

Visual artist and designer, P. Scott opened his three-part exquisite exhibit entitled ‘A Vision of a Fashion God’  at 2150 S. Canalport at the Lacuna Artists Lofts and Studios on October 21st and this past Friday, November 4th served as the 2nd showing. What a wonderful turnout…many guests within the local creative art community conversed over wine and hors d’oeuvres as they admired the creativity displayed before them.

The series of paintings, including ‘Gucci Buddha’, ‘Apollo Versace’, ‘Polo Christ’, and ‘Kali Vuitton’ to name a few explores the paradox between human spirituality and high reverence for fashion. P. Scott also uses a variety of fabrics and clothing in serval of his paintings for the exhibit.  The evening was hosted by Bakunzi Matemane of The Amber Factor Elite. Special guests included R&B singer and fashion advocate Peter Hadar from New Jersey, blogger Renae Bluitt, Allan Davis midwest director for P Nation Clothing Line along with a host of artists and photographers from the artsy Pilsen community. P. Scott also hosted a special raffle which included P. Scott’s “signature denim”  painting that is retailed at $1000; a lucky guest is now the proud owner of this custom piece.

The last public reception of this exhibit will be held on Monday, November 21st from 6:00pm-9:00pm. If you have yet to experience ‘A Vision of a Fashion God’ at 2150 S. Canalport, Suite 5C-14, Chicago, IL – Lacuna Artist Lofts & Studios don’t miss what could be your final opportunity.  Stay up to date with upcoming events at or

Reeling: The Chicago Lesbian & Gay International Film Festival

Reeling: The Chicago Lesbian & Gay International Film Festival is the second oldest film festival of its kind in the US, and prides itself on showcasing the best LGBT films and videos each and every year.
From award-winning international feature films to social documentaries to experimental shorts, Reeling has always presented a range of genres that demonstrate the rich diversity of work being produced. Not only has Reeling become one of the most important cultural events for Chicagoans, it also attracts LGBT people from throughout the Midwest who consider the festival to be the highlight of their cinematic year.
Reeling 2011 is presenting 60+ programs over 10 days from November 3-12.

The mission of Reeling is to recognize the important artistic contributions that lesbian, gay and transgender filmmakers have made to our culture; to educate the general population and sensitize them to lesbian, gay and transgender issues; to investigate the history of LGBT film, including the stereotyping that has been a major part of this history; and to counteract this stereotyping with valid, meaningful and diverse portrayals of those in the LGBT community.

The festival provides a unique opportunity for the celebration of these identities for a community too often misrepresented or ignored in mainstream film and television.

Chicago Filmmakers receives funding from the Illinois Arts Council, the Gaylord and Dorothy Donnelley Foundation, The MacArthur Fund at the Richard H. Driehaus Foundation, and a City Arts 3 Grant from the City of Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs.
