More Dance Than Dinner Soiree Returns to Support CAM

More Dance Than Dinner Soiree

More Dance than Dinner Soiree

December 16, 2011

Showtime
9:00pm-11:00 pm
After Party
11:00pm-2:00 pm
at TantriK

The Chicago Academy of Music will offer financially sustainable free music education through a variety of programs for children who are underserved and/or chronically poor residents in the South and West sides of Chicago. Programs offered will utilize both Suzuki and traditional methods of musical instruction and will be available mostly for children from a low socioeconomic status (SES) background. The programs offered include weekly musical instruction, daily after-school group music classes, and specialized year-round workshops. While the priorities and goals of each program will differ, they will all serve the mission of the academy.

“The mission of the Chicago Academy of Music is to transform the lives of young people by instilling positive values through affordable music education.” A main functionality of the Chicago Academy of Music is illustrated in our programs using Instruments of Transformation. Not only will students develop into proficient musicians, but their experience with their instrument, their instructor, and (in most cases) with their parent will directly impact areas of their lives outside of the music academy.

We are currently fundraising for the purpose of purchasing and renovating our first location at 4341 South Cottage Grove Avenue, Chicago IL.  Integral to our renovation plans are a daycare and café, which will generate the revenue required to ensure the long-term sustainability of the music program. The daycare will specialize in early math, science, reading and music education through play coupled with bilingual teaching. Sustainable free music education will only be achieved after we reach our overall donation target of $2.5 million.

The plan to reach the targeted donation amount is by way of a series of fundraisers, specifically, the monthly “More Dance Than Dinner” events running from November to June. These two-hour events will showcase the finest vocalists, instrumentalists and dancers Chicago has to offer. Hit songs will be selected and arranged for the specific instrumentation of each performance. An example of this is Maroon 5’s #1 best seller “She would be loved” played through the rigors of the genre’s: Classical, Cuban jazz, Gospel, Salsa landing on R&B; unveiled in front of the audience coupled with (where possible) dance performance. For the aforementioned to be achieved, CAM, in conjunction with Purple Elephant Productions is seeking a tax deductible donation and/or a tax deductible donation toward sponsorship for the planning and production process for the first fundraiser of the series, which is scheduled to take place on December16, 2011, 9:00pm-11:00pm at Tantric. Thank you and we hope you can be our sponsor or a donation.

Submissions should include photos of loved ones who have died of HIV/AIDS or loved ones who are living with the disease. Photos should be at least 600 pixels in one dimension.

Karma Kitchen Chicago: Growing is Generosity

Karma Kitchen, Chicago
2nd Sunday Each Month
12PM-3PM
Last seating at 2:45PM

Klay Oven Restaurant
414 N. Orleans Street, Chicago, IL
312-527-3999

Sunday’s at Karma Kitchen have become a welcome occasion to celebrate in an atmosphere of multi-cultural expressions, enlivened with the synergy of altruistic community spirit. Many people who come for the first time believe they are coming for a FREE meal. It doesn’t take them long to make a distinct transition in thought, realizing that a “gift” has been given to them, by a stranger, about a month ago. Thus, the atmosphere becomes charged with good will, kindness and joy that feel comparable to that of a holiday celebration. In this blog I will share the activities that made Sunday, September 11, 2011, so uniquely significant on it’s own.

Klay Oven Indian Restaurant open their doors for the Karma Kitchen Coordinators to begin setup around 9:30am. On this particular day, the sun is already shining quite warm and bright, making the atmosphere cheerful and toasty before we even get started. (Just as a side note, it seems as though the weather is never a determining factor for the number of people that participate with us on any given Sunday). Once the room is organized, our volunteers arrive in time to participate in a one-hour orientation that is facilitated each and every month by the coordinators.

Chicago Canine Rescue Shelter Grand Opening & 10 Year Anniversary Party

Chicago Canine Rescue Shelter Grand Opening & 10 Year Anniversary Party

EVENT DETAILS:
It’s not only the Grand Opening of our new shelter, but its also Chicago Canine Rescue’s 10 Year Anniversary!!

When: Saturday, November 12, 2011 from 4pm – 8pm

Enjoy:
* Free face painting, balloons & cupcakes for the kids!
* A $20 Donation for appetizers, beer, wine and cake
* Awesome silent auction items including original artwork, autographed Bears photo and more.
* CCR Merchandise for sale, too!
* Tour the new shelter
All funds raised go to the dogs!

*Everyone is welcome to come in to do the facility tour and find out more about CCR free of charge, but to enjoy the appetizers, drinks and get an autograph its the $20 donation.

Location: 5272 N. Elston Ave., Chicago, IL

Blackhawks player, Brent Seabrook and his girlfriend, Dayna, along with their two rescue dogs (one’s a CCR alum named Stanley – formally Willy and their other dog Knox) have just committed to attending starting at 4pm and staying for a few hours. CCR will plan to have him sign autographs. The photo he’ll sign is one of both of them with stanley in the Stanley cup (attached). He adopted Stanley just two days before winning the Stanley cup!

Here’s some info on the new shelter:
After ten years of growth from an operation of all foster homes to a small shelter, CCR now calls 5272 N. Elston Ave, Chicago, home; a 7,000 square foot stand alone building with plans for a substantially improved indoor kennel space and outdoor kennel runs. Besides its spacious foot-print, our new location offers parking, dog walking at the nearby forest preserve and neighborhood, and easy access to two expressways.
CCR has spent the last ten years saving more than 3,000 adoptable dogs. Without our continued help, many dogs currently in shelters will be euthanized for lack of space or because they suffer from minor and or temporary health issues. All of these dogs remain great candidates for adoption into loving homes. As CCR’s extended family, our collective efforts are needed to ensure that this new space can be retro-fitted in the safest and most efficient manner.
