An Evening of Fashion Under the Stars With Anastasia Chatzka

Local Fashion Designer, Anastasia Chatzka

Anastasia Chatzka is a designer with a broad creative scope and a boundless interest in what garment design can be. Anastasia attended several design schools and eventually graduated from the International Academy of Design in Chicago. Since then she has worked with some of the best and most innovative designers in the world, including Betsy Johnson and Anna Sui. While Anastasia has the ability to design in a broad range of styles, she feels that, ‘designing is a very selfish thing that closely follows (her) mood.’

Anastasia , 2010 Collection

As you can see from her fabric colors and patterns, her designs do change with the seasons.  I think it’s fair to say that her past collections embodied a certain youthful whimsy.  They included layered frills, somewhat conservative lines, and flowered details. This new collection however, hit the runway hard with burgundy infused woolen plaids, stylishly layered over flowing printed silk.

Anastasia decided that it was time to play hard ball. While she’s not totally pulling away from her previous aesthetic (there may be more florals come Spring), Anastasia felt that it was time to show everyone what she’s about with a new luxury line.  Everything has been imported from around the world; From European wool to custom ordered Japanese silk and antique glass buttons this deluxe collection is not to be missed.  It does come at a price though- Literally.  Her earlier collections cost between $100 and $500. Pieces in the new collection will range from $500-$1200.

Chatzka feels that this next step is a vital part of who she is as a designer.  Her goal is to show the local consumer that you don’t need to invest in foreign goods to get a quality product.  The designer plans to build a mini design studio in her wicker park boutique.  There, shoppers will get to see first-hand the detail and the work that goes into luxury apparel. But don’t worry.  If this new collection is a bit out of your price range, you will be able to buy similar pieces at the old prices.

Macy’s first ever food truck tour will feature MCC chefs Takashi Yagihashi and Rick Bayless on board for the Chicago stop, cooking their favorite summertime recipes and dishing them out free! The Macy’s branded food truck will visit multiple cities during its nationwide tour which concludes in September. KitchenAid® will provide appliances to prepare timeless, summer-inspired dishes such as hamburgers, a homemade ice cream recipe created by Emeril Lagasse and signature side dishes selected by the guest MCC chef at each stop. Fans that “like” Macy’s on Facebook or follow Macy’s on Twitter (@macyevents), will receive a special gift at each food truck stop, while supplies last. Fans can also join the chefs on Twitter as they tweet live from the food truck by using the hashtag #macyschefs. While the chef’s dishes are free, guests can support a good cause by donating to Feeding America®, the nation’s largest domestic hunger relief organization. For every $1 donated, Feeding America can help provide seven meals to those in need on behalf of local food banks. For additional information about MCC and the full “Macy’s Chefs A-Go-Go” tour schedule, please visit www.macys.com/culinarycouncil. Aloft Circus Arts Presents BIGGER

BIGGER

July 30 2011: 8 PM-Midnight

The Aloft Loft: 2041 W. Carroll Ave

Aloft Circus Arts is excited to announce “BIGGER”, a larger-than-life circus party to celebrate the opening of their new 8000 square foot facility in Chicago, IL.  “BIGGER” will be held at the Aloft Loft on Saturday, July 30th from 8.00 PM to midnight to inaugurate the largest circus training space in the Midwest (and the third largest in the country)!

It’s not just a party for circus freaks, it’s a party for people that love spectacle, and being immersed in an experience. Party-goers will feel like they have swallowed the small pill when they arrive and wander into a surreal world where proportion is askew and everything is BIGGER. Conquer giant cupcakes, devour monster popcorn balls, eat the dress off the towering cotton-candy princess! Imbibe on BIGGER cocktails while gawking at the characters working it down the runway in “High Fashion” a stilt-walking fashion show and costume contest! Planet Claire, Chicago’s best B52s tribute band, will inspire guests to make their own hair BIGGER at the Gigantic Hair Styling Station. And of course Aloft will thrill everyone with their extreme circus performances until the wee hours of the morning.

Ticket prices are $50 for the public, and $30 for current Aloft Loft students, and your contribution is partially tax deductible. BIGGER is a benefit to equip the huge new Aloft Loft with updated equipment and rigging as Aloft expands their course offerings and performances.  Can’t give that much? Every penny helps! Wanna give more…well, there are perks for that!

Go here to make your donation and snag your ticket! Or just to make a donation! Whatever makes you happy!

Donations are accepted starting July 1, must be done on-line. Once 200 donations with tickets to BIGGER as a perk are gone they are gone. There will be NO ticket sales at the door, and all guests must be 21 or older.

Questions? Email us at info@aloftcircusarts.com.
