Chicago’s Soul Train 40th Anniversary Concert

Soul Train Logo

Monday, September 5, 2011

Pre-Concert Dance Party: 4 – 5:30 pm; concert begins at 6:30 pm.

Millennium Park
N. Michigan Ave. & E. Randolph St.
Chicago, IL 60602

Admission is FREE!

Pay homage to 40 years of Soul Train – the Chicago-based, longest-running, nationally syndicated television show – with a spectacular Labor Day concert at Millennium Park’s Jay Pritzker Pavilion. The evening’s honored guest is none other than Don Cornelius, Soul Train’s founder and host.  Legendary R&B and soul artists, including Jerry “The Iceman” Butler, The Impressions, the Chi-Lites, the Emotions and Gene Chandler, take the stage with an orchestra of veteran musical collaborators led by the acclaimed conductor/arranger Tom Tom Washington.

Chicago’s Soul Train 40th Anniversary Concert is presented by the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events, in partnership with the Chicago Office of Tourism and Culture, and caps a weekend of events honoring the venerable show, including a Soul Train Photo Exhibition and Friday Night Groove Soul Train dance party with Chic-a-Go-Go at Expo 72.  The concert is made possible, in part, through Amtrak in commemoration of its 40th Anniversary.

Pre-Concert Dance Party

Start your Soul Train Labor Day festivities even earlier that afternoon with a Pre-Concert Dance Party at Cloud Gate on Millennium Park’s Chase Promenade from 4 – 5:30 pm, hosted by Chicago radio pioneer, V103 Radio’s Herb Kent. Kent, known as the “King of the Dusties” and the “Cool Gent”, will spin hit records from the 60s, 70s and 80s prior to Chicago’s 40th Anniversary Soul Train Concert at 6:30 pm. Admission to both the concert and the dance party is FREE.
