Venue One
1044 W Randolph St
Chicago, IL 60607

Tickets $100 benefiting the Chicago Cultural Center Foundation (an organization that provides FREE arts programs in Chicago).

Buy Tickets Now

Venue One, Chicago’s premiere events venue, will be transformed to celebrate all things ‘spooky,’ with extreme décor, and state-of-the-art sound and lighting by Biz Bash Award-winning EventCreative.  Guests will also enjoy open bar, festive hors d’oeuvres, dancing to celebrity DJ “Diverse” and a costume contest with a top prize of $1,000.

A huge hit at last year’s Galaween, DJ Diverse returns to keep guests dancing throughout the spookiest night of the year.  Diverse has nearly a decade experience behind the turntables and has been continuously climbing his way to the top of not only the Midwest club circuit, but also venues ranging from Toronto to Miami, Chicago to LA, and Phoenix to D.C. Originally hailing from such an unexpected place as Des Moines, IA, and moving back and forth from Arizona and Los Angeles, Diverse has been able to secure a spot for himself alongside some of the country’s most elite DJs. His resume includes spinning parties and events for Lauren Conrad and the cast of MTV’s The Hills, GOOGLE, the Minnesota Vikings and Kansas City Chiefs, Amy Smart, Broken Lizard, Forrest Whitaker, and artists such as Ludacris, David Banner, and The Black Eyed Peas. Diverse is currently cycling through jobs all over the nation and headlining some of the biggest parties in the biggest markets. While combining superior turntable skills with a “diverse” musical background, and as a member of The Music Trust’s DJ roster, Diverse is on his way to becoming one of North America’s most prominent DJs.

Galaween will once again raise funds for the Chicago Cultural Center Foundation — whose mission is to support free public programs, all based in the arts, and managed by the Department of Cultural Affairs & Special Events.  A majority of these programs take place at the Chicago Cultural Center, one of the city’s ten most popular attractions and also considered one of the most comprehensive arts showcases in the United States.

Sassy City Chicks Fashion Bash Equaled One Huge Girl’s Night Out

CeCe & Melinda

It was every girl’s heaven, a shoppers dream come true last night at Venue One where Sassy City Chicks welcomed Chicago to an evening of shopping and cocktails courtesy of Pinnacle Vodka.  There were vendors spread out all over the second floor and groups of female shoppers hovering around every table, booth, and clothing rack in sight.  Both local and national brands were present showing off their best designs and products.  Some sellers included Crescendo Apparel, Anastasia Chatzka, Accessories and Jewelry by Purple and Lime Womenswear, Nature-Inspired Home Fragrance and Bath & Body Products by Kejor, Elda de la Rosa Couture, Eco + Fair Trade Accessories by Five, Jewelry from NV-Avenue, Purses and Designer Wear from Red Paris, Lexy Charms Couture, Laura Tanner Jewelry, Rodan & Fields Skincare, Designer Bags by Purse U, Jewelry from LeAnita Ragland-Brooks, and Deliciously Vintage just to name a few.  And one of my personal favorite make-up brands, Benefit Cosmetics, was on hand giving the ladies make-overs, Chicago Salon was providing feather hair extensions for only $10, and for those ladies who shopped til they dropped – mini massages were also being offered.  I am so glad I was able to stop in and check the event out.  It’s just too bad I didn’t have more time to shop because it was obvious how much fun all the ladies were ahving plus my eyes spied a few worthy buys but I had to focus on taking photos and capturing all the fun and shopping that was going on.  I made sure to grab plenty of cards for future shopping and snap photos of some of my favorite items for sale.  More photos from the event can be seen on nowYOUknow’s Facebook page so be sure to LIKE us there!

The Make-Up Show Chicago Debut

Color Pallete at TheMake-Up Show Chicago

The Make-Up Show – a popular event for make-up artists and other professionals in the industry held in LA, New York, & Europe – finally debuts in Chicago recognizing the windy city as a leader in the beauty industry.  The show kicked-off with a blogger preview event late Saturday afternoon and NYK was honored to be invited and treated to an informational session by the world reknowned James Vincent plus a bag full of make-up goodies including must-haves and new products.

The actual show opened to the public for two full days – Sunday & Monday – at Venue One in the West Loop.  It was a make-up artist’s heaven with 2 floors full of exhibitors, demonstrations, hands-on workshops, seminars, keynote speakers, business forums, & more – simply the best of the best.  Some famous faces in the house – national & local – included James Vincent, Danessa Myrics, Orlando Santiago, Big Girl Cosmetics, Mario Ink, Elessa of Purse Buzz, Fatima Thomas, Michael DeVellis & Crystal Wright – amongst many others.  Two of the biggest trends I noticed were colors and surprisingly… glitter!  Bright hued eye shadows were abound just in time for spring in every color of the rainbow.  And glitter seems to be making a come-back but not in the 80’s style we’ve seen in the past.  Instead the look has been modernized and updated.  Brands like Get Lit are paving the way and breaking all the rules when it comes to wearing glitter.

All the cosmetic favorites were also present with many of them acting as sponsors for the show such as Make-Up Forever, Crown Brush, The Powder Group, Inglot, Temptu Pro, Stila Cosmetics, and ONMAKEUP Magazine.  I was excited to attend the show but admit I was overwhelmed initially walking into the venue.  I just didn’t know where to start so I decided to begin snapping photos of booths, exhibitors, attendees, demos, etc.  I wanted to make sure I captured it all and saw it all.  But I also wanted to take advantage of having so many wonderful resources at my fingertips and access to top products at discount prices.

I will be the first to admit that I know very little about make-up beyond the basics.  I can handle a simple look – foundation, blush or bronzer, simple eyeshadow, liner, mascara, lipstick, & gloss but beyond that I get lost.  So, what’s a girl like me to do?  Ask the plethora of pros surrounding me.  And it was absolutely unanimous across the board of which booths I had to visit.  Everyone I asked named the same 3: Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics for their lip tar, Crown Point for their brushes, and Make-Up Forever for any other make-up needs, especially their new Lip Line Perfector to prevent any bleeding of the lipstick outside the lip lines.

I followed the advice I was given and purhcased: Two Lip Tars from OCC (in Vapid & Trick), the Lip Line Perfector & Rouge Artist Intense Lipstick from Make-Up Forever (in #20 – a color I wouldn’t normally get but wanted to take a small risk), and a bunch of brushes from Crown Point.  I was happy with my purhcases & considered making two additional buys – A 78-count color combo shadow & blush palette for $19 & Lotion from Naked Advanced Skin Solutions known to be the complete solution for your skin and any skin condition.  Being budget conscious I chose not to make those extra purhcases.

Guests also had the opportunity to purchase a membership for th TPG Pro Membership Group (the core of The Powder Group Artist Community) for VIP access to the Make-Up Show, invites to exclusive events, newsletters, special rates on the Powder Group projects & education, a link to an online community, job postings & notifications, & more.

I was very impressed and extremely happy to finally have the Make-Up Show here in Chicago and I think I can confidently say I wasn’t the only one to feel this way.  It is just such a great opportunity to bring the best-of-the-best in the bussiness together with newcomers learning the trade.  I hope this becomes a yearly event here in the windy city.

Here are a few photos from the show.  To view the entire album from the blogger preview event & the show, please visit NYK on Facebook.
